Meet Annie Hurst: Certified Brand Specialist + Chief Geek
Obviously, we like to take things very seriously around here.
Annie is a quirky artist-meets-tech kind of gal who loves geeking out over new designs, updated website functionality features, and giant books with nothing but PHP code from cover to cover. She specializes in visual storytelling and marketing. Her obsession for perfection inspired the initials for her business—OCD. But it doesn’t stop there. With a thirst for knowledge and an urge to always improve her craft, you can regularly find Annie either listening to a marketing podcast or with her nose in a 3-inch-thick book about website coding / SEO / design psychology.
Annie earned her Associate of Applied Science in Graphic Design and Fine Arts from East Central College. She followed that degree up with a Certificate in Website Design from Webster University. She then furthered that knowledge by becoming a Certified StoryBrand Guide in 2022, and a Level C Certified Brand Specialist in 2023. These degrees and certifications were the cherry on top to this lifelong compulsively-creative artist.
At the core of everything Annie does is her excitement at seeing fellow business owners succeed. She is passionate about providing strategic design that will make sales for her customers. With every design, she focuses on getting it right and delivered on time. Each and every client is important to Annie and Off-Center’s team.

While the creative team brings visions to life, Trish creates the foundation that makes it all possible. Her superpower? Making the complex look effortless while maintaining the perfect spreadsheet for absolutely everything.
Alex Watson
Assistant Geek & Digital Multitasker
Alex Watson serves as Off-Center Design’s indispensable Assistant Geek, masterfully keeping the digital wheels turning with ninja-like efficiency. She swoops into Annie’s inbox twice daily, tackling messages and ensuring no client communication falls through the cracks. Alex’s tech-savvy fingers work magic on client websites, handling updates with precision and care while simultaneously managing Annie’s workflow and to-do list with impressive organizational prowess. She transforms potential overwhelm into manageable action items, creating order from creative chaos.
What makes Alex truly exceptional is her extraordinary time-management skills and attention to detail, bringing a unique perspective to everything she touches. In the background of every smooth client interaction and completed project, you’ll find Alex’s careful attention making it all possible.
Karen Butterfield
Copy Writer & Recovering Journalist
Karen Butterfield is another writer we lean on for fabulous copy. Karen recently founded KE Butterfield, a writing and communications company, but her love of words and storytelling goes back further than she can remember.
Prior to launching KEB, Karen served as a Director of Communications for a healthcare recruiting firm, and spent nearly a decade as a reporter/editor for an award-winning community publishing company. During her tenure there, Karen earned more than a dozen state and national awards for her work.
Karen earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Webster University in St. Louis, and has since completed a Specialist Diploma in Search Marketing from the Digital Marketing Institute.
Contrary to popular memes, Karen is a delight to work with and doesn’t (usually) call the manager.
Paul Schierhoff
IT Guy and Computer Whisperer
Man, myth, legend. Paul, owner of Net Engineers, has been serving the Washington and Sullivan, Missouri communities since 1996. His company has teamed up with Off-Center Design to provide website hosting support plans in addition to basic website maintenance and updates. Net Engineers also helps OCD clients with email support, IT assistance, and sage advice.
When he’s not at his off-the-grid cabin fishing, Paul can regularly be found somewhere telling someone that they need stronger passwords and an up-to-date backup of their computer files.
